Xander van Rossum is 58 years old, a true native of Breda, and has been living in Prinsenbeek for a few years now. He enjoys the tranquility of a village but appreciates being close to the city, which he considers the ideal situation. Additionally, he lives close to the forest and beautiful cycling routes heading towards the south of the Netherlands and Belgium, which he explores on his racing bike, especially when the sun is shining. On rainy days, he covers fewer road miles but can be found in his private home gym, riding his FitBike in the attic. Being active is critical to him. “Staying active gives me energy and confidence. It’s also a great way to balance things out by firing up the barbecue on weekends and enjoying a glass of wine or beer. I value that balanced lifestyle, and thanks to Polyfluor, I have an excellent work-life balance that allows me to live this way.”
Xander has gained a lot of experience and held various roles throughout his career. He has worked in logistics and held multiple commercial positions, primarily in commercial office service, but also spending a year in commercial field service. However, this didn’t feel right for him, as he found himself mostly working alone. “A solitary existence,” he calls it. “In hindsight, I spent a lot of time prospecting, and it started to feel more like begging. It was an experience I learned from.”
Though Xander excels in acquisition, it wasn’t his passion. “When you’re not doing what you enjoy, you have to make different choices,” he explains. Inside sales turned out to be a role that suited him well. Eventually, Xander wanted a new challenge and found Polyfluor through Indeed. “I already knew Erwin Volkers from my work, so it all came together nicely.” At Polyfluor, he found an environment where he could grow further, without the pressure of unreasonable expectations or a role that didn’t feel right. Thus, he began as a Sales Consultant at Polyfluor.
As a Sales Consultant, Xander plays a crucial role in supporting our engineers and sales teams by processing inquiries, preparing quotes, and following them up. While he doesn’t focus much on acquisition itself, he ensures that incoming requests, including those from the website and sales engineers, are handled and followed up with precision. Getting to where he is now required significant effort. “When I started, I had to learn everything from scratch. I was an expert in heat-shrink tubing, but at Polyfluor the range is much broader. I spent the whole year acquiring knowledge and learning something new every day.”
He learned a lot in a short time, which made his second year much more comfortable. “Having knowledge gives you the freedom to do your job as well as possible. I truly enjoy working here because there’s a great balance between collaboration and working independently. I also find the deep dive into materials fascinating. When you understand what you’re talking about, it’s easier to explain. Among our colleagues, we each have different areas of expertise. One colleague can help with complex drawings, while another knows a lot about high-pressure hoses. They can explain specific requests in detail, and that’s how you learn every day.”
